Our extra heavy duty cardboard tubes feature a 3mm spiral-wound wall, making them roughly twice as crush-resistant as standard 1.5mm postal tubes. They're built for shipping high-value, heavy or oversized contents where a thin-wall tube simply isn't strong enough — including blueprints, fabric rolls, steel rule, oversized prints, rolled canvas and industrial parts.

• Long tubes — anything over 1m benefits from a 3mm wall to resist flex.

End caps & sealing

Every extra heavy duty tube ships with two plastic end caps as standard — one fixed at the factory, one removable so you can insert your contents and seal the tube before postage. For high-value shipments we recommend running a strip of tape over each cap as additional security.

How much weight can a 3mm cardboard tube hold?

A 3mm-wall cardboard tube can comfortably support several kilograms of axial load and resist significant lateral crush — far more than standard postal tubes. Exact load capacity depends on diameter and length; contact us for industrial winding-core applications.

How do I cut a 3mm cardboard tube?

A fine-tooth saw gives the cleanest cut on a 3mm wall. Mark the cut line all the way around, support the tube on a flat surface, and saw with light pressure to avoid tearing the inner layers. Sand the cut edge smooth if it needs to be reinserted into another tube.

Are extra heavy duty tubes waterproof?

The cardboard wall isn't waterproof on its own, but the 3mm thickness gives much better short-term water resistance than thin-wall tubes — especially in the postal network. For long-term outdoor use or wet environments we offer waterproof-lined bespoke tubes; ask on the bespoke enquiry form.

Are 3mm cardboard tubes recyclable?

Yes. The cardboard body is fully recyclable through standard kerbside paper and card collections. The plastic end caps can be removed and recycled separately at most household waste centres.
