Is the tape being used to seal, reinforce, protect, mask or control static? Storage is less glamorous than chemistry, but it prevents avoidable failures. Rolls should remain upright, protected from moisture, kept at room temperature and stored in sealed bags where the supplier recommends it. A FIFO rotation keeps older stock from sitting forgotten at the back of the racking. Common failure checks are simple: - **Acrylic below its specified application temperature:** Allow the tape and carton to condition before sealing. - **Gummed tape on unsuitable board:** Trial water level, board coating and dwell time together. - **PVC on a paper recycling route:** Confirm whether the material conflicts with the intended kerbside stream. - **Any tape on dusty board:** Remove loose fibres and apply consistent pressure across the seam. For standards-led selection, BS 7116:1990 remains a useful UK reference for double-sided pressure-sensitive tapes, particularly where classification, peel, shear, thickness and packaging requirements need to be specified.
